Beneteau

The shipyard was founded in 1884 in Croix-de-Vie (now Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie) in the Vendée department, by Benjamin Bénéteau. At first it produced sailing chalutiers, fishing boats, but in the following years the production also expanded to motor boats, always fishing boats. In 1964 the third generation of Bénéteau expanded the offer by starting the production of pleasure boats, introducing polyester as a building material. In 1982 the shipyard became a world leader in the construction of sailboats and celebrates the centenary of the birth of the shipyard two years later. In the nineties the company was enlarged with the acquisition of CNB, Jeanneau, Lagoon and other shipyards: the Bénéteau Group was born, which will also buy other activities not related to the nautical sector.
